2010

RECLAIM!?
Reclaim your culture! Reclaim your city! Reclaim your life!
Underground Timisoara Festival in 2010... nr. 13
...manifesto?

Intr-un context in care sloganurile "catchy" mai ca nu ne inabusa, care-i sensul celui de mai sus? Suna bine bine, are impact. Are insa vreo substanta? As vrea sa ma scutur de contextul sugerat mai sus. Nu ma intereseaza marketingul, nu ma intereseaza impactul, imaginea. Nu ma intereseaza brandul.

EU NU AM TELEVIZOR.

RECLAIM? Unde mi-e cultura, unde mi-e orasul, unde mi-e viata? Cine mi le-a luat?

Intre libertatea culturii si cultura libertatii, aduceti-mi aminte.
Reclaim your culture!

Iar daca crezi in povestile cu reforma
educatiei, haha! Sistemul functioneaza. Produce indivizi docili, perfecti: consuma, voteaza, asculta. Seriously,
reclaim your life. Bon gros dodo!

RECLAIM? Raspunsul e individual. Si nespectaculos. Al tau?

RECLAIM!?
Reclaim your culture! Reclaim your city! Reclaim your life!

In a context where catchy slogans almost choke us, what is the sense of the above? It does sound good, it has impact. Does it have any substance?

I would shake off the context suggested above. I am not interested in the marketing, I am not interested in the impact, in the image. I am not interested in the brand. I HAVE NO TV.

I will approach this systematically, yet necessarily superficial, ignoring the shape of words, choosing rather to address their meaning. Reclaim? Where is my culture, where is my city, where is my life? Who took them? And why should I reclaim them? Whom from?

It is impossible to escape the spectacular context of the image. The culture, the city, life – I realize these are all engulfed in the spectacular. Form covers everything.

Culture can be seen from two points of view: the media (with shopping, class, style, luxury, designers, branding, advertising, red carpet, prestige, stars, celebrations, cathedrals, pundits, debates, the crying water, lifestyle, clubbing, idols, divas) and intellectual (with Christian democrats who wait – their eyes filled with tears – for American paratroopers to gently descend from the skies, characters who feel threatened by the resurgence of socialist ideas, but reassured by the sanctity of capitalism, subtle commentators, geopolitical strategists, so obsessed with item 8 that they forgot to read the rest, special, so special that we cherish their philosophical delirium with every breath). Between the freedom of culture and the culture of freedom, remind me. Reclaim your culture!

The city is European, modern and dynamic. There is dust, there are advertising boards, there's dust, advertising boards, the shopping mall. European, dynamic. Youth, Unirii square, shopping mall. European, dynamic. Multicultural. For money. Multinational corporations. The leaders. Modern, dynamic, multicultural. Reclaim?

Life is easily reduced to the famous “Metro, Boulot, Dodo”. We have no metro. There is boulot, lifelong work, work that sanctifies man, sanctifies the place, hundreds of thousands of martyrs, working to buy, working for the good of the economy, working for the success of capitalism. Free market, maximizing others' profits, voting, democracy, theirs, everything belongs to somebody else, the many – on credit. As a child you are told what you must possess, what you must become, what you must take. Education follows. If you believe the nonsense about the reform of education, haha! The system works. It produces docile individuals, perfect individuals: they consume, vote, obey. No questions asked. Success and competition. A well defined framework, life in the television, like in the television, through the television. Seriously, reclaim your life. Bon gros dodo!

RECLAIM? The answer is individual. And unspectacular. Yours?
